Hello! I'm Wendy Broad and am a STAT qualified Teacher of the Alexander Technique offering Alexander Technique lessons to people from all over South Manchester and Cheshire. I work at the Middlewich Physiotherapy Clinic, Middlewich, CW10 9DX and my practice is very close to Homeschapel, Northwich, Davenham, Moulton, Kingsmead, Leftwich, Winsford, Knutsford, Crewe and Nantwich.

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique is a practical method to help you to learn how to use your body as nature intended. I can help you to discover how to release unwanted tension and change unhelpful habits, enabling you to learn new ways to move and live your life with greater freedom and ease. 

 

Benefits

Alexander TechniquThere is scientific evidence published in the British Medical Journal that the Alexander Technique can reduce chronic lower back pain. As a result of this scientific research, the NHS now recognises that the Alexander Technique is an evidence-based approach that is suitable for treating lower back pain.

Lots of people also take lessons in the Alexander Technique to help with neck pain, sciatica, pregnancy pain, joint stiffness and muscular tension. It is regularly used to improve posture, balance and movement and has other health benefits for relaxation, to manage stress and to build self-confidence.

Many professionals including actors, musicians, business people and sports people, such as golfers and runners take Alexander Technique lessons to enhance their performance.

As a former horse rider, I also offer Alexander Technique lessons in relation to horse riding and equestrian sports performance. I have worked with many riders help them to improve their posture and their connection with their horse. We can use a saddle and a wooden horse if you want to learn how to release tension in your body which could affect your riding.

 

What happens in a lesson?


I work in a calm and relaxing way, using my hands to help you to notice and change unhelpful patterns of tension in your body which could lead to pain and strain. Usually you’ll spend some time lying down in semi-supine (with your knees bent) while I help to direct your thoughts and encourage tension release.

You’ll also spend some time in guided movement, sitting and standing or on a saddle horse.
If you prefer, I can offer a therapy-style relaxation session. With each session you’ll gain more self-awareness which can help you to manage stress, pain or discomfort and improve your health and well-being. If you practise every day it can be life changing, with amazing health benefits.

Each session normally lasts 45 minutes. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably trousers for ladies.

For clients wanting to improve their posture or address pain or performance, usually around 6-12 sessions are needed with practice in between. If you prefer a one-off relaxation therapy-style session lying down, this can be really beneficial to help relieve stress.

We provide the Alexander Technique to clients across Cheshire and South Manchester including Northwich, Knutsford, as well as Warrington.

Who was Alexander?

Frederick Matthias Alexander was a Shakespearean orator in Australia at the turn of the 20th century. After developing persistent laryngitis, Alexander spent several years retraining his body in order to regain his voice. He discovered that he was tensing his neck muscles when he performed and the key to solving the problem was to stop and think first. His unique approach later became known as the Alexander Technique.
